For those who are interested in the Jewish Rome a stop is required at the Fosse Ardeatine, the site, today a mausoleum, celebrating the Jews and Romans that had been killed during the second world war by the Nazis, in one of the worse passage of the modern history of the city.
Upon request a private special visit of the Jewish Catacombs is possible (extra hour).

Aventine
Rome is known as the city of the 7 hills. The Aventine is the one linked to Remo, one of the twins founders of Rome. At the beginning the hill was inhabited by the mob, here is where they struck against the Patricians. Through the centuries it has been transformed in an exclusive quarter.
Still today a very exclusive residential area of the city.
In the Middle Ages became the seat of oriental monks, we can visit here some of the most beautiful paleocristian churches of Rome: St. Sabina with the oldest wood door, St. Anselmo with the ancient herboristery and St. Alessio. In the square of the Knights of Malta you can also see through the famous "Key hole"….

Trastevere and the Tiberine Island
From the latin word "Trans-Tiberim", this was the only quarter on the right side of the river. It was born with Augustus as the quarter of the poor and foreigners. It is the first residence of the Jewish community after the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem. It kept the popular appeal up to the '60s and then transforms itself in the most picturesque quarter of the city.
A stroll along Trastevere discovering the small alleys, the people, the churches it is a must-see in Rome. The "trasteverini" (the inhabitants of the quarter) consider themselves the true romans: in summer the "Noantri" feast is one of the evening attractions with live music and the flea market. In front of Trastevere the link to the rest of the city: The Tiberine Island with the oldest bridges "Fabricio" and "Cestio".
The island has the shape of a boat in the middle of the river. The Romans dedicated it to the God of Medicine Esculapio for this reason always linked to the cure of people, still today hosting a famous hospital. In the island we can visit the Medieval Church founded in 1000 with the relics of St. Bartholomew.
